Jamaica opens third international airport

Ian Fleming

Well I had no idea that a third international airport was being built on the island, where have I been, right? Oh well it appears that the Ian Fleming International Airport has been constructed at Boscobel St. Mary (it's actually an expansion and rebranding of the Boscobel Aerodome). For those who don't know he is the creator of James Bond, living near Oracabessa St.Mary he was inspired whilst going through a personal crisis and wrote his first book Golden Eye in 1952. And yes that was before Pierce Brosnan was born.

His name being attached to this airport honors him for the exposure he has given the island and rightly so, but also to catch the ear of high end tourists who may be curious to experience what our industry has to offer. This is an important step in improving Brand Jamaica and it doesn't hurt to thank a few people such as Ian Fleming along the way. So here's a toast to Jamaica opens third international airport shaken not stirred. Enjoy!!!

Reggae sales slump in 2010

It just so happens that reggae sales for the year 2010 were not all that great, the numbers say that 2009 residual album sales outsold 2010 albums in 2010, please note residual and this was also the year of our great depression. Houston we have a problem! Apparently we require better marketing for our music, or is it that our industry music needs to create a more marketable product? This may not be the case since, "The three 2010 albums that made the list included: Distant Relatives by Damian Marley and Nas, which ranked No 1 — selling some 57,000 copies in the US for its first week; Hold You by Gyptian at No 8 and The Green by The Green Band at No 9." But I'll let you decide, check the link for more details Reggae sales slump in 2010

The All-island Carnival series being planned as a 10 fetes in 12 weeks extravaganza, has the promise of being the largest soca event in the region. It will begin on January 29 in Kingston on the UDC(Urban Development Company) field in New Kingston. The package is being put together by Tristar Entertainment which has launched a social-media marketing campaign for the event that will be visiting St.Mary, Portland, Negril, St.Thomas, Montego Bay and more. According to a director of Tristar Entertainment "We couldn't possibly be looking to do an event in Jamaica without engaging persons via the social-media platform." "These websites, Facebook and Twitter, have massive populations and a great deal of their members fall right in our target market. So, we're going for it. Youtube, Facebook, Twitter ... everywhere."

We will wait to witness the developments of this series and how the people respond to there social-media marketing, until then this endeavor sounds promising and enthusiasm within the Tri-star camp appears to be at a high level for the future event.
